Understanding pressure units
SI units
The pascal (Pa) is the SI unit of pressure, equal to one newton per square metre. Because a pascal is very small, kilopascals (kPa), megapascals (MPa), and bar are used more often in everyday applications. One bar equals exactly 100,000 Pa.
Tyre & industrial
PSI (pounds per square inch) is the most common tyre pressure unit in the US and UK. Europe typically uses bar. Industrial hydraulics often work in megapascals. This tool makes switching between them effortless.
Medical & scientific
Blood pressure is measured in mmHg (millimetres of mercury). Weather stations report pressure in millibars (mbar) or hectopascals (1 mbar = 1 hPa). Scientists and vacuum engineers use torr. One standard atmosphere (atm) is the baseline reference at sea level.
