Understanding shoe size systems
UK & US sizes
Both the UK and US systems use a numbered scale based on the length of the last (the foot-shaped mould). Men's US sizes are typically 0.5 higher than UK sizes, while women's US sizes are about 2 higher than UK. Half sizes are common, giving a better fit than whole-size-only systems.
EU (European) sizes
The European system, also called the Paris Point system, measures the length of the last in units of two-thirds of a centimetre. EU sizes are unisex for adults, though some brands add gender-specific width adjustments. The scale runs from about 35 for small adults to 48+ for large men.
CM & JP sizes
The Japanese (JP) and centimetre-based systems measure the actual foot length in centimetres (or millimetres for JP). This is the most straightforward system โ a 27 cm foot wears a size 270 in JP. It removes the guesswork of arbitrary numbering systems.
