They are the same thing. Flipping horizontally mirrors the image left-to-right, as if reflected in a vertical mirror. Flipping vertically mirrors it top-to-bottom. The terms "flip", "mirror", and "reflect" are used interchangeably in image editing.

Rotating by exact 90° increments (90°, 180°, 270°) is lossless — every pixel is simply remapped to a new position. Custom angle rotations require resampling (interpolation) which can introduce very slight softening, but the effect is negligible for most practical purposes. Exporting as PNG preserves maximum quality after any rotation.

Click "Custom Angle" to expand the angle input, then type your desired angle or use one of the quick-angle buttons (±15°, ±30°, ±45°). Click Apply to rotate. Custom angles are cumulative — you can apply multiple rotations in sequence. Note that custom angles will increase the canvas size to fit the rotated image.

When you rotate a rectangle by an angle that is not a multiple of 90°, the corners extend beyond the original bounding box. The canvas expands to fit the entire rotated image without cropping. The empty corners show as transparent (PNG) or white (JPEG). This is standard behaviour in all image editors.
