A strong hook typically does one of four things: it creates a curiosity gap that makes the reader want to know more (“I almost quit Instagram last month…”), it states a specific and relatable situation (“3 years ago I couldn’t afford a camera”), it asks a question that the reader wants to answer, or it makes a bold or counterintuitive statement. Weak hooks are generic (“Had such an amazing day!”) or start with the least interesting information. The first 125 characters of your caption are the most valuable — spend the most time on that line.
