What is a good TikTok engagement rate — and how is it calculated?
TikTok engagement rate measures how actively your audience interacts with your content relative to your follower count. It is calculated by dividing total engagements (likes, comments, and optionally shares) by your total followers, then multiplying by 100. A 7% engagement rate means that 7 in every 100 followers engaged with the video.
TikTok engagement rates are significantly higher than other platforms — typically 3–5× higher than Instagram at every follower tier. This is because TikTok’s For You Page algorithm distributes content to non-followers, creating higher interaction rates even for large accounts. The benchmarks in this calculator reflect TikTok-specific data, not cross-platform averages.
Shares are TikTok’s most powerful engagement signal. A shared video triggers additional For You Page distribution more aggressively than a like or comment. If you have access to your share data from TikTok Analytics, use the extended formula for a more accurate picture of your content’s algorithmic potential.
